Originally a product of the AM General Corporation, the Hummer was first designed and produced in the early 1980s as a military vehicle designated the HMMWV, or Hum-Vee. In 1991, a civilian version was introduced by AM General and the Hummer was born.

Thanks to its exploits in the First Gulf War, the HMMWV became a highly recognized vehicle. Associated with durability and toughness, the vehicle gained a strong reputation that the civilian Hummer inherited and enjoys to this day.

In 1999, General Motors purchased the Hummer brand and began successfully marketing new Hummer models along with a host of other products, including apparel, shoes and even cologne.
